On December 18, a group of our high school and middle school students attended an unforgettable educational presentation by 99-year old Holocaust survivor, Saul Dreier, featuring his extraordinary personal account of survival and resilience and a musical performance on the drums at the Klein Center for the Performing Arts Center in Sierra Vista. Students were touched by his story, talent, energy and optimism.
About Saul Dreier: Born in Poland in 1925, Saul’s youth came to a halt in 1939 with the outbreak of WWII. After living in the Ghetto, Saul survived working in Oscar Schindler’s famed factory. Eventually he was sent to - and survived - three Concentration and Labor Camps (Mauthausen, Gusen, and Linz). All throughout, Saul Dreier’s love for music remained as a source of hope and strength. “We didn’t have anything to eat, but when we heard music, it made us come alive”, says Saul. In 2014, after 15 years of retirement, Saul, together with fellow survivors and their children, founded the “Holocaust Survivor Band”. They have performed around the world, including concerts in Auschwitz, Israel, and across the US.
