Congratulations to our Lady Tigers, 1A South Region Champs! We are so proud of these girls for representing St. David well throughout the season as well as in the 2024 AIA Girls Volleyball 1A State Championship games where the team made it to the semifinal round.
Head Coach Breana Tillett shared: “These girls worked hard and had such a good season, they should be so proud of it and all of their accomplishments! So many stepped up in different roles to better the team, they always saw the big picture and willingly filled the roles the team needed when asked. They showed so much grit and fight throughout the season and never gave up when they faced challenges and things got tough. They fought hard until the end and I’m so proud of them! Keep your heads high and keep working hard for the seasons to come! We’ll definitely miss our seniors, it’s been such an honor to work with them and to see them grow into the amazing people and players they are today! I love you girls! Thank you parents and the community for always showing up and supporting these girls! You guys are the best!”
Until next season - keep the spirit alive and continue to push forward!

Since its inception in 1987, the Ed Doherty Award has served as the State of Arizona’s highest individual high school football honor, annually recognizing the most outstanding player on and off the field. Recipients are selected for demonstrating athletic excellence and unwavering integrity, along with a commitment to academics, community, and school pride.
We are pleased to announce that Cedar Haynie was nominated for the Ed Doherty Award for his performance in the week during our HOCO game against Desert Christian. This is a great honor and he is one of only a handful of Student Athletes to be nominated for this award in Cochise County. We are extremely proud of Cedar for this achievement. -Coach Chic
Recently six St. David students advanced in SSVEC's annual Washington Youth Tour contest. The students created a 60-second video which was scored by four judges. Students with the top-scoring videos advance to the semi-final level.
We are pleased to announce that three of our students made it to the next round! St. David Schools had more qualifiers than any other school in our service area!!! Congratulations to Aaron Edington, Cayden Richins and Jaxon Savage for their accomplishment!
The final round will be held Wednesday, November 6th at Benson High School, where the competitors will participate in a 50 question test, complete a 300-400 word essay, and a final interview in front of a panel of judges.
Let's Go Tigers!!!
Xavier Martinez-Bird was selected by the Cochise College Career Technology District as Student of the Month for October. Mrs. Anderson said of Xavier, "Not only does he contribute to class discussions and apply concepts during the hands-on portion of the class, but he also often helps his classmates." We want to spotlight Xavier for being such a positive influence and for embodying the spirit of collaboration at St. David Schools. Keep up the great work!
A message from Coach David Kartchner: "I would like to say how grateful I am to have been able to coach these young athletes this year. Being my first year coaching here in St David, I wasn't sure how the season was going to go. These players were all gas, no brake from the very start. While we didn't do individual awards for the boys this year, I will say that there wasn't a lack of abilities. These boys were dedicated and a pleasure to work with. I look for forward to seeing these young athletes grow into great men."
We celebrate our amazing middle school football players, coaches and supportive families. It was a great season!
Last week our principal recognized some very special students and they were given an ice cream as an award for their outstanding behavior in the month of September. The Washington Youth Tour program is open to all high school juniors living in SSVEC's service area. SSVEC representatives offered presentations in nine area high schools to introduce the program. Study materials were distributed and about a week later students took a qualifying test on those materials. The test consisted of 50 true/false questions. We are excited to announce the highest scoring students from St. David High School who now advance to the next level: Aaron Edington, Jordan Parker, Cayden Richins, Jaxon Savage, Cedar Haynie and Isabella Hennessy. Best of luck to each of you in phase two!
We had a very successful season for middle school volleyball! I’m so proud of all the growth and hard work we have seen from all three teams this season. Our A Team went 7-1 all season. We ended CAC in second place to Benson. The girls left everything on the court and fought hard all three sets. I’m sad to see our 8th graders go but excited to see what they accomplish next year in high school! I’m so grateful I get to coach all these wonderful girls! --Head Coach Daisy Johnson
Senior Lauren Jones was chosen as an Arizona state representative for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council (YLC). This opportunity arose as a result of her participation in the Washington Youth Tour this summer. As part of her responsibilities in this role, Lauren hosted an assembly for all high school students where a member of SSVEC spoke to the youth about the co-op . Lauren practiced her public speaking skills as she spoke to the students about youth advocacy and the importance of voting. She encouraged all 18-year old students to vote, and helped interested students to register. We are proud of Lauren's leadership, determination to improve our community, and efforts to make our country a better place!
